Depression can be an incredibly difficult illness to live with and yet so many people do experience it at some point in their lives. There is no single formula for depression and many people seem to experience it in ‘waves’ where they will feel alright for a short while and then feel down again. Others feel low most of the time. The hardest part of overcoming depression can be asking for help. Seeking treatment for depression can be really daunting as you wonder if it can help and if your problems are important enough to get help. They are. Not matter how big or small your problems you have the right to be happy.
Sometimes people have lived with depression for so long that they feel it can’t be helped and there is no point in doing anything. Don’t give up. Counselling is an effective depression treatment and can help you overcome this illness and be happy again.
How can I help you with depression?
The first session can seem really daunting. That is normal. Counselling can be a really comfortable and nurturing process and my clients always tell me that they feel that I care about them. You won’t feel alone in this process.
Counselling allows you to talk freely about your emotions, what is going on in your life, being completely honest and without fear of judgment. It can be a very liberating and supportive experience. Often just having a neutral person to talk to can help you feel that you have started to move in the right direction and overcome depression.
Through depression counselling you can:
- Identify where you’re at now
- Determine what you want to get from counselling
- Learn tools and strategies to help you deal with the depression
- Work out what issues have caused you to suffer from depression
- Work on these issues to resolve them and find real solutions
- Start to feel better about where you are at now
- Make the changes in your life to find happiness
- Feel supported throughout the whole process
- Re-build faith in yourself
- Re-build self-esteem
There are a number of options available to help treat depression and we discuss these options openly so that you can make some real choices about what sort of treatment you feel comfortable with. We then set definite strategies to move forward.
Remember, that no problem is too big or too small to talk about, and with support you can feel better about yourself and your life. My focus is to help you to find your own path and solutions so that you can love the person you are and be happy in your life.
