Couples Counselling in Baulkham Hills & the Hills District

Build a Stronger, Healthier Relationship

Relationships take work and sometimes the patterns we fall into make that work feel impossible. If you and your partner have been struggling to connect, communicate, or trust again, you’re not alone, and it’s not too late.

At Affinity Counselling in Baulkham Hills, I’m Sharon and I work exclusively with couples. Not as a sideline to general therapy, as a specialist. With 16 years of experience and over 10,000 hours of active couples sessions, I bring a depth of knowledge that makes a real difference to the outcomes my clients achieve.

Why Choose a Specialist Couples Counsellor?

There are many therapists in Sydney’s Hills District who offer couples counselling as one of many services. Specialist couples counselling is different.

When you work with a counsellor who focuses solely on relationships, every technique, every framework, every hour of continued learning is applied to what you’re going through. You get expertise that’s deep.

  • Understand the patterns unique to couples – not just individuals
  • Apply evidence-based relationship frameworks with real precision
  • Create a space that’s genuinely neutral and safe for both partners
  • Work toward outcomes, not just conversation
  • Feel safe that you have experience guiding you through the process

What Couples Counselling at Affinity Can Help With

Couples come to me at all different stages – some in crisis, others feeling a slow drift apart. Common reasons couples seek counselling include:

  • Communication breakdown – talking over each other, missing the message or not talking at all
  • Trust and infidelity – rebuilding after betrayal (and yes, it can be done)
  • Conflict that feels circular or unresolvable
  • Emotional distance and disconnection – feeling like flatmates
  • Navigating major life transitions together (children, loss, career change)
  • Intimacy concerns
  • Deciding whether to stay or separate – and doing either well

About Your Baulkham Hills Couples Counsellor

Sharon has been working with couples in the Hills District and across greater Sydney for 16 years. Over 10,000 hours of active sessions has given me a level of pattern recognition and clinical depth that only comes with time and focus.

Many of my clients are referred by GPs, psychologists, other health professionals and some companies in the area who trust the outcomes their patients or employees report back. That trust has been built session by session, couple by couple.

My approach is practical and grounded. I use well-researched frameworks adapted to where you and your partner actually are, not a rigid formula applied regardless of your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between couples counselling and marriage counselling?

Couples counselling supports any two people in a committed relationship – married or not, same-sex or heterosexual, de facto or long-distance. Marriage counselling is often used interchangeably but can carry a more traditional connotation. The work is essentially the same; the label just reflects who’s seeking it. Read more about Marriage Counselling here.

How long does couples counselling take?

There’s no fixed timeline. Some couples see significant progress in 6-8 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term work. We assess this together as we go. The goal is always progress, not dependency with the intention of couples having the skills to navigate their relationship on their own going forward.

Do both partners need to attend every session?

Most sessions are with both partners together. Occasionally individual sessions can be useful as part of the process. We discuss what makes sense for your situation.

Where are you located?

Affinity Counselling is located in Baulkham Hills, on the border of Norwest, and is easily accessible from across the Hills District. I work from a dedicated home office with its own private entrance, completely separate from the rest of the home. Clients often comment on how warm and welcoming the space feels, a far cry from a clinical office environment. It’s a safe, private and nurturing setting, designed to help you feel at ease from the moment you arrive.

Take the First Step

Reaching out is often the hardest part. If you’re ready to talk, or even just ready to find out more I’d welcome a conversation – or simply book online to arrange your first session with Sharon

How I work with Couples

We begin by understanding what’s happening for each of you and identifying the patterns that keep you stuck. From there, we shift how you relate, communicate, and problem-solve together. Every session is tailored to what’s happening in your relationship right now while keeping your long-term goals in mind.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous at first. My role is to help you feel comfortable, and most couples feel open to talking within a few minutes. That first session is about getting to know your relationship and seeing if I’m the right fit for you. An experienced couples counsellor will make you feel that clarity from the beginning.

At the end of the first session, I’ll share a clear summary of what I’ve learned about each of you and your relationship, what’s already strong and what needs attention. You’ll leave with a personalised plan to move forward.

Most couples feel a huge sense of relief after this first session. With a clear plan and goals, you’ll know what to expect and how to start making change.

I’m intentional about results. I won’t lock you into long-term sessions. Like working with a personal trainer, the more effort you put in, the faster you’ll see results, and eventually, you’ll feel confident managing things on your own. Think of me as your relationship trainer.

This is a genuine Google review about Sharon.

“We have been seeing Sharon on and off for over a year now. We have both found her incredibly beneficial to our lives. I’m a big believer in talkative therapy but only with the right person and Sharon is definitely that. Sharon has been incredibly kind with her time, often going over the allocated hour when she knew we needed a bit more time. No other therapist I’ve ever been to has done that before. To me this shows she cares not only about us but about her craft. She loves what she does and this is very obvious. We will definitely be using Sharon anytime we need some help and guidance.”
